How We Work

A typical polygraph examination involves a pre-test interview, chart collection, and data analysis. The examiner discusses the test, answers questions, and explains the procedure during the pre-test. In the chart collection phase, multiple polygraph charts are administered and collected. The number of questions and charts varies based on the issues and technique used. The examiner then analyzes the charts to determine the examinee's truthfulness. If needed, the examinee is given a chance to explain physiological responses to specific questions.

The steps involved are as follows

  • A lie detector test is voluntary and cannot be forced on the examinee. However, understand that in some cases, refusal to take the test may result in adverse consequences regarding a relationship or professional career.
  • Lie detector pertinent questions can only address the examinee's actions and/or knowledge in the past or present. They cannot and must not include abstract matters such as feelings, thoughts, or intentions.
  • You can clear concerns or doubts from PolyTest by contacting us for free consultation.

  • Lie detector tests are usually administered at the office of Risk Control Services, Plot 5, Dreamworld Africana Road, After Orchid Hotel, 2nd Toll Gate, off Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos. Walk-ins are not accepted.
  • Appointments can be scheduled over the phone, which will include a brief discussion as to the reason for the test and to answer any of the client’s or examinee’s questions.
  • Upon scheduling, the client is usually requested to pay 50% of the cost to secure the appointment.

Cancellation policy: Unless stated otherwise, the appointment can be rescheduled or cancelled up to 4 hours in advance with no charge. If the cancellation occurs within the four-hour window, a 5% cancellation fee will be applied.

  • A minimum of 6 hours of sleep the night before the test is highly recommended.
  • The examinee should continue taking any routinely prescribed medication.
However, the examinee should refrain from taking any over-the-counter medication 6 hours before the scheduled appointment or be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Please arrive on time for your appointment.
  • Upon entering the Risk Control office, the examinee and client will be requested to turn off their cell phones.
  • The examinee and client will then be requested to read and sign standard waiver and examinee information forms.

After completing the appropriate forms, the examiner will begin the pre-test.

  • During the pre-test, the examiner will discuss and review the case (the reason for taking the test and the events which preceded the test). The client and examinee may jointly agree on the pertinent test questions.
  • The examiner will review with the examinee concepts such as truth and deception, the physiological principles behind the lie detector test, and familiarization with the lie detector device and sensors.
  • No other person except the examiner and the examinee is allowed to be present in the examination room during the test itself unless an interpreter is required.
  • Following the decision on the test questions, the client will be asked to step out of the examination room. The client will be able to wait in Risk Control office until the exam has concluded.
  • The entire test questions will then be verified with the examinee, explained, and reviewed prior to the test.

  • After the test procedures are verbally reviewed, the examiner will apply the lie detector sensors to the examinee. All the sensors are harmless and are fitted to the examinee with care.
  • An acquaintance test will be the first stage of the examination. This test is conducted to establish the examinee's unique baseline, prior to the main test.

  • Upon the conclusion of the test, the examiner will analyze the test charts and data and reach his professional conclusion.
  • Depending on the requirement, the client will be called back to the examination room and the examiner will discuss the results and upon client request, a written report will be generated with no additional fee and provided to both the client.
